EMERGENCY SERVICE
The Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) at Bugando medical centre is the first full capacity public emergency department in Lake zone of Tanzania. The department is under the directorate of medical services. Prior to becoming full capacity EMD with trained Emergency Medicine Physicians, the department provides care within the available resources. A recent project of rehabilitation and expansion has made more professional provision of service possible. The EMD BMC offers best healthcare for ill and trauma patients; to various organisations, companies and institutions not forgetting the general public; by highly trained medical staff. - . Ambulance services Patients Care:
- The EMD serves an average of 100 patients per day (outpatient as well as high acuity patients) and mainly performs the crucial role of resuscitation, stabilization and disposition of critically ill patients of all ages. We also treat minor illness and injuries. Academic research and consultancy:
- Intern Training: The EMD offers clinical training to interns doctors who rotate for a period of four weeks in the department. Elective rotations for international students are available on request.
- Nursing students training: The EMD offers dedicated training in emergency nursing to nursing students mainly from CUHAS but available upon request from other institutions.
ACADEMIC AND RESERCH CONSULTANCY
• Annual drills: The EMD BMC works in collaboration with Tanzania ports Authorities, Mwanza unit to conduct annual training drills in mass casualty and disaster preparedness. These ensure that our centre is ready to respond to disasters

Emergency care research: The EMD BMC has recently started research collaboration with well Cornell college of medicine with residents. 24 hours Ambulance Services: A fully equipped ambulance is available 24 hours a day upon request with a small fee for services. The ambulance, when needed is able to transport patients who are on ventilator support within Mwanza city. When needed, medical escort for patient requiring evacuation is also available
